Wylie Hall Relative Named Broodmare of The Year

Marie Leicester’s wonderful Iffraaj mare Meleka Belle, who is from the same family as Cheveley Stud’s well performed young sire Wylie Hall, has been named the 2020 Arion Pedigrees Eight Carat Broodmare of the Year.

Meleka Belle’s champion daughter Melody Belle secured the prestigious title for her dam with Melody Belle’s achievements on the racetrack last season included securing the Hawke’s Bay Triple Crown, before a win in the G1 Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington and finished runner-up to Magic Wand in the G1 McKinnon Stakes.

At the time of writing, the Commands sired Melody Belle has won 15 of 32 races, with her victories including 10 at G1 level.

Meleka Belle is also the dam of Exaltation, a winner of two races from three starts for Jamie Richards.

Both Meleka Belle and Wylie Hall are descended from the prolific Summertime mare Belle Time, with the latter the fourth dam of both Meleka Belle and Wylie Hall.

Belle Time’s other notable high-class descendants include Wylie Hall’s G1 Hong Kong Sprint winning half-brother Absolute Champion (by Marauding) and fellow top-level winners Eskimo Queen (whose G1 George Ryder winning son Dreamforce recently won the G2 Tramway Handicap for a second time), Anamato, Dance Hero, Dealer Principal, Drum, Grand Armee, Plucky Belle and champion Yourdeel.
