Thukela Handicap Threepeat For Infamous Fox

Classy Australian bred five-year-old Infamous Fox made it three Listed Thukela Handicap wins in a row, when he won the Hollywoodbets sponsored feature at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday afternoon.

Camelot’s Jet Master Stakes winning son Crown Towers was well fancied to land the 2020 Thukela Handicap, with the Snaith trained gelding starting the 15-10 tote favourite to provide his July winning conditioner with another feature race win on Saturday.

However, after pulling hard, Crown Towers faded out of contention to finish sixth. In contrast, Infamous Fox receive a superb ride from log leading jockey Warren Kennedy.

Kennedy nursed his mount for much of the running, before bringing Infamous Fox (18-1)with a late swoop down the inside, and the grey pounced close home to edge Choisir’s Australian bred son Hudoo Magic (8-1) by half a length. The Brett Crawford trained Hudoo Magic finished a head clear of Priceless Ruler (10-1), with the latter looking threatening 300m from home, but who had to settle for third.

Now a nine time winner from 28 starts, the Candice Dawson trained Infamous Fox claimed Saturday’s 1600m race in a time of 96.72.

A $25,000 Magic Millions purchase for Central Route Trading from the Glastonbury Farm draft, Infamous Fox, who was later resold at the 2016 Klawervlei Farm Sale, is the best of three winners from French, an unraced Nadeem half-sister to G3 winner Typhoon Billie.

Infamous Fox shares his Woodside Park Stud based G1-winning sire Foxwedge with 18 other stakes winners including recent G1 South African Fillies Sprint runner up Run Fox Run, while his South African stats are simply outstanding – recording 100% winners to runners.
