Three Gatecrashers In A Row For Gimmethegreenlight

Varsfontein Stud’s prominent More Than Ready horse Gimmethegreenlight achieved a notable feat when his son Gold Season captured the Listed Gatecrasher Stakes brought to you by Bollywood at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.

In landing the 1400m contest for two-year-olds, Gold Season became the third son of his sire in as many years to win the Gatecrasher Stakes, following Barahin (2018) and Kaydens Pride (2019) respectively.

Fourth on his only previous start, the Nadeson Park Stud bred Gold Season defied his inexperience with a comprehensive one and three quarter length win.

Under jockey Craig Zackey, the Ashley Fortune trained colt pulled clear down the inside before going on to best favourite Master Of Disguise (7-4) comfortably. The Paul Peter trained favourite, in turn, finished half a length clear of rank outsider Royal Exibhit (50-1), who ran above his odds back in third.

A 25th stakes winner for his G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winning sire, Gold Season broke his maiden when landing Sunday’s race in a time of 86.66.

The well related colt, a R375 000 buy from the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, is a half-brother to Thukela Handicap/KZN Guineas Trial winner Easy Lover and is out of G2 Southern Cross Stakes runner up Miss Gold Digger.
