Trainer Tobie Spies dominated the finish to the G2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper, a race for 2yo fillies over 1400m, at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday with his charges Cockney Pride and What You Are finishing first and second in the R600 000 feature.

Both Roll In The Hay and Kayla’s Champ were slow away, as Singforafa (a stable mate to the first two finishers) went out to make the running.
The favourite True To Life raced mid-field, with the previously unbeaten Victoria Paige racing just off the front runners.

True To Life hit the front 300m out, but was quickly challenged by first Cockney Pride and then by What You Are, and it was the latter pair who went on to fight out the finish.

It was the Craig Zackey ridden Cockney Pride, however, who went on to score, with the Ambiance Stud bred filly posting a 0.7 of a length win –at the rewarding odds of 17-1.

Recent Listed Devon Air Stakes winner What You Are was game back in second, finishing 1.5 lengths clear of Kingsbarns filly Gabor, with the favourite back in fourth spot.

Cockney Pride, now a winner of two of only three starts, claimed the 2019 Golden Slipper in a time of 84.63.

The filly, who picked up the BSA value added bonus R100 000 following her win, was a R150 000 buy from the 2018 National 2YO Sale.

She is an 18th stakes winner for Oasis Dream horse Querari, whose progeny also include G1 Thekwini Stakes winner Querari Falcon and millionaire Kangaroo Jack.

Out of the unplaced Rakeen mare Lovely Jubly (whose other progeny include the stakes placed Another Idea), Cockney Pride is from the same family as Equus Champions Ice Cube and Whistling Dixie as well as high class Hong Kong galloper Singapore Sling.
