Seventh First Crop Winner For Futura

Drakenstein Stud’s red hot resident sire Futura has made a superb start to his stud career, and the former Horse Of The Year, and triple Equus Champion, came up with his seventh first-crop winner when his two-year-old son Eliud made a hugely impressive debut, in open company, at the Vaal on Thursday afternoon.

Bred by the Ralphs Syndicate and raced by Ralphs Racing, the gelded Eliud was backed down to start a 3-1 shot, and he duly lived up to expectations.

Under jockey Denis Schwarz, Eliud hit the front 100m from home before powering clear to record a three and a half length, debut win over 1200m, highlighting himself as one to watch.

Out of the Captain Al mare Entrechat, Eliud, who is trained by Candice Dawson, looks yet another exciting prospect for his very exciting young sire Futura.

The latter, sired, like this year’s G1 Vodacom Durban July winner Belgarion, by Dynasty, has firmly established himself as one of South Africa’s most exciting prospects, with Futura’s early first crop winners headed by G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe winner Nourbese (also third in the G2 World Sports Betting SA Nursery), G2 filly Jasmine and impressive winners Calgary and Vihaan’s Pie.

Himself a former National Sale buy, Futura has eight lots on the 2020 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale which gets underway at Germiston tomorrow.
