Rafeef Tops First Season Sire List
Ridgemont Highlands’ G1 winning stallion Rafeef made his mark at Thursday/Friday’s Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale, with the son of Redoute’s Choice ending the Gauteng sale as the Leading First Season Sire by Aggregate.
Rafeef, whose first yearlings fetched up to R2 200 000 earlier in the year, had 15 members of his first crop, from 16 lots offered, gross R4.235 million, which saw Rafeef finish second on the sale’s Leading Sires by Aggregate List to only Gimmethegreenlight.
The G1 Computaform Sprint winner had two-year-olds fetch up to R800 000, with other lots by Rafeef fetching R600 000, R500 000 and R350 000.
Sandown Stud sold the top lot, on behalf of Rafeef’s owner Shadwell Stud, in the form of the filly (below) Anghaam (Lot 340), who was knocked down to David Ferraris for R800 000.
A half-sister to two winners, Anghaam is out of the More Than Ready mare Tazyeen, whose dam Element Of Danger, is a full-sister to short-lived Australian Horse Of The Year Typhoon Tracy.
This is also the family of G1 TJ Smith Stakes winning sire Master Of Design, who, like Rafeef, was sired by Redoute’s Choice.
A winner of six of just ten starts, Rafeef scored his signature win when downing champions Talktothestars and Carry On Alice to claim the 2017 G1 Computaform Sprint.
