I AM Invincible Son Scores In South Africa

Yarraman Park’s leading sire I Am Invincible enjoyed success in South Africa on Thursday afternoon, when his Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum owned son Akwaan won impressively at the Vaal racecourse.

Trained by Mike de Kock, the 3yo Akwaan had caught the eye when breaking his maiden over 1400m last time out and the gelding followed up with another smart win on Thursday.

Sent off a well fancied 5-1 shot for Thursday’s Tellytrack.Com MR 72 Handicap (1600m), Akwaan romped home, under jockey Callan Murray to post a facile two length win.

Akwaan, who was conceding weight to each of his 14 rivals in Thursday’s race, has now won or placed in five of just six starts to date.

Bred by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Akwaan was a $500,000 buy from the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

The son of I Am Invincible was produced by the Fastnet Rock mare Born To Rock, whose five career wins included a score in the TC Gai Waterhouse Classic.

Born To Rock herself was produced by the unraced Peaks And Valleys mare Call Me Pretty, a half-sister to the stakes winning dam of G2 San Felipe Stakes winner A.P. Warrior and to the dam of Ascot Stud’s very promising young Galileo sire Global View.
