Hawwaam’s Brother Tops National Sale
Blue-blooded colt Celestial City, catalogued as Lot 185, proved the star attraction at Friday’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale in Germiston.
A son of the Maine Chance Farms based Arlington Million winner Silvano, who was recently crowned South African Champion Sire for a fifth time, the Wilgerbosdrift bred colt was knocked down to Summerhill Equestrian’s Henning Pretorius for R7 000 000.

Celestial City is the fifth foal produced by the Jet Master sired G3 Prix Du Cap/Off To Stud Handicap winner Halfway To Heaven -South Africa’s Broodmare Of The Year for 2019-2020.
Halfway To Heaven has made the perfect start to her stud career, with her first three foals -Rainbow Bridge, Hawwaam and Golden Ducat-all having won G1 races.
The past 2019-2020 season has been particularly successful for the Wilgerbosdrift based mare, with Halfway To Heaven sons winning all of the G1 ARF Commemorative Cape Derby, G1 H F Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes, G1 World Sports Betting Premier’s Champions Challenge and G1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge.
Hawwaam, a Silvano own brother to Celestial City, is set to continue his career overseas, with the Equus Champion 3YO Colt of 2018-2019 having won 10 of 13 starts and banked over R6.769 million in prize money.
The prize colt’s eight graded triumphs (five at G1 level) include both this year’s G1 Horse Chestnut Stakes and G1 Premier’s Champions Challenge (in both 2019 and 2020).
