Gimmethegreenlight Filly Romps To East Cape Fillies Nursery Win

Varsfontein Stud’s inform stallion Gimmethegreenlight came up with his 24th stakes winner his Varsfontein bred and owned daughter Favorita romped home to a hugely impressive win in the Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery (1200m) at Fairview racecourse on Friday afternoon for Justin Snaith.

The two-year-old came into Friday’s R150 000 feature having finished fourth, to the unbeaten Delta Queen, in the G3 Capetown Noir Kenilworth Fillies Nursery, last time out, and was duly sent out the 53-20 tote favourite.

Always travelling smoothly under Richard Fourie, Favorita quickened up smartly 300m from home and from there it was no race.

Despite hanging, and running very green in the final stages, Favorita pulled well clear of her chasing rivals and stayed on to record a facile nine and three quarter length win, with impressive debut winner Storyland (49-20) back in second, and Eternal Hope (6-1) in third spot.

Now a winner of two of just four starts, Favorita claimed the R90 000 first prize in a time of 69.98.

The filly is out of the unraced Var mare Vermentino, a half-sister to Spook Express Handicap winner Justthewayyouare (dam of G3 East Cape Derby/G3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup winner Captain Splendid) and to Varsfontein’s dual G2 winning promising young sire Master Of My Fate.
