Frosted Gold Shines In Pinnacle Stakes Win
Talented four-year-old gelding Frosted Gold, winner of the 2019 G2 SA Nursery, claimed his fifth win, from 13 starts, when he won a competitive looking pinnacle stakes at Turffontein on Saturday.
The New Zealand bred grey was quietly fancied for Saturday’s Computaform Online Pinnacle Stakes (1400m), despite having a wide draw to overcome, but it was G2 Hawaii Stakes winner Cirillo who was sent off 2-1 favourite –despite the Pomodoro entire having to lug 62kgs on his back.

Rank outsider Captain Aldo (55-1) went out to make the running, with Pomodoro racing just off the early speed, and Craig Zackey letting Frosted Gold (27-4) settle towards the back of the field.
Cirillo hit the front 300m from home, but was quickly challenged by first Zouaves (5-1) on the outside, before Frosted Gold, under a superbly timed ride from Zackey, powered home down the inside, and it was the Mike de Kock trained Frosted Gold who went on to score –winning Saturday’s contest by a neck.
Runner up Zouaves, making his first start for new trainer Grant Maroun, ran a cracker in second, with the favourite settling for third –two lengths off Zouaves.
Frosted Gold claimed Saturday’s race in a time of 85.7, and he looks on course for another good season for owner Dave MacLean.
A $180 000 buy from the 2018 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Frosted Gold (bred by JML Bloodstock) shares his four time G1 winning sire All Too Hard with Saturday’s G2 Ladbrokes Sandown Guineas winner Allibor.
