Feature Race Four-Timer For Bloodstock South African

Bloodstock South Africa graduates were in fine form at Turffontein on Saturday, with all of Springs Of Carmel, War Room, Lady Of Steel and Green Haze notching up feature race victories.

An R80 000 buy from the 2019 Cape Yearling Sale, the Klawervlei Stud bred Springs Of Carmel (above) made it win number two, from just three starts, when running out a clear-cut winner of the Listed The Citizen Ruffian Stakes (1000m) at Turffontein on Saturday.

The Captain Of All filly, who races for Mr Johnny Peter, accounted for fellow Bloodstock South Africa graduate Rabbedoe by a length and a quarter, while providing trainer Paul Peter with the first of three feature race winners on the day.

Springs Of Carmel, who was ridden to victory by Piere Strydom, is out of the five time winning Dynasty mare House Of Lorraine.

Paul Peter and jockey Warren Kennedy teamed up to win Saturday’s Listed TAB Storm Bird Stakes (1000m) with the unbeaten Ndoro Stud bred colt War Room. The latter made it win number three from as many starts when running out a length and a quarter length winner of the 2020 Storm Bird Stakes, and War Room has now won all three starts by an aggregate of more than eight lengths.

The Storm Bird Stakes was a clean sweep for BSA, with graduates War Room, Winter Stories and Slalom Queen finishing 1-2-3 respectively.

Owned by the Hyperpaint Syndicate, War Room (Judpot –Magnificent Maggie) was a R120 000 buy from the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

Yet another BSA graduate to maintain an unbeaten record at Turffontein on Saturday was the Johan Janse Van Vuuren trained Lady Of Steel, who romped home to a facile 2.25 length win in the G3 Racing. It’s A Rush Acacia Handicap (1600m) under jockey Chase Maujean. Now unbeaten in four starts, the Lammerskraal Stud bred filly was a R700 000 buy from the 2018 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale.

A daughter of Varsfontein Stud’s red hot sire Gimmethegreenlight and G1 Empress Club Stakes winner Fair Maiden, the regally bred Lady Of Steel races for Mr and Mrs Breitenbach.

Green Haze provided sire Gimmethegreenlight and breeders Lammerskraal Stud with more feature race success when that four-year-old gelding ran out a half-length winner of the Listed Drum Star Handicap (1800m) on Saturday.

Trained by Alec Laird, and ridden to victory by former champion jockey S’Manga Khumalo, Green Haze took his earnings to R583 000 with his win on Saturday.

The consistent Green Haze was a R350 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.
