Celtic Voyager Lands Durban Dash

Trainer Glen Kotzen kicked off Sunday in style, winning the first two races at Hollywoodbets Greyville with Garrulous and Celtic Voyager respectively.

The Vercingetorix sired Celtic Voyager caused a 20-1 surprise when making all to land the Durban Dash brought to you by Backchat (1100m) in fine style.

Under jockey Warren Kennedy, Celtic Voyager skipped clear at the top of the straight, and kept going strongly to land Sunday’s 1100m sprint for three-year-olds by a convincing three-parts of a length.

Tote favourite Binoche (15-4) chased the front runner gamely, but had to settle for second, with another longshot, Ad Altisima (20-1) finishing back in third, just over a length off the winner.

Now a winner of four of 11 starts (he had reeled off a hatrick of wins earlier in the season), the Maine Chance Farms bred Celtic Voyager claimed the Durban Dash in a time of 66.67.

The gelding races for Mr B P Finch, Mrs K Finch, Green Street Bloodstock (Pty) Ltd (Andre Fouche & F Oostendorp), Missing U Syndicate (Nom: Mr R C Knuppe) & The Wise Boys Syndicate.

The result of the Durban Dash was a great one for Maine Chance Farms’ hot young sire Vercingetorix, sire of not only the winner but also the runner up Binoche.

A R150 000 buy from the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, Celtic Voyager is out of the stakes placed Black Minnaloushe mare Cat’s Paw.
